An analysis of growth for consumer retail brands in the 2024-25 financial year has revealed a number of local success stories amongst the expansion of global brands in Australia. The analysis focused on market penetration, which reflects the percentage of people aged 18+ that purchased at least once from each brand during the period.
The rapid expansion of Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Guzman Y Gomez, which now has more than 210 restaurants across Australia, saw almost 33% of the population purchase from their restaurants during the financial year, translating to an estimated 1 million new customers.
Privately owned Bakers Delight, with more than 500 stores across Australia, saw 38% of the population purchase at least once from its stores, up from 33% the year prior, also translating to almost 1 million new customers.
Chemist Warehouse, fresh off its recent merger with Sigma Healthcare, continued to expand rapidly, with 70% of Australians making a purchase at one of its pharmacy locations during the financial year, a gain of more than 700,000 new customers.
Global brands surging ahead in Australia including 1st placed Temu, Amazon (8th) and its Amazon Prime (3rd) bundled delivery / video service. Fashion brand Uniqlo (5th), and Shein (7th) also performed strongly throughout the year.
Temu's growth equated to more than 1.3 million new Australian customers throughout the year, while Amazon Prime, which bundles its delivery service with access to Prime Video, continued to expand rapidly as it expanded both its delivery capability and media platform offering.
Booking.com held 6th place on the list, increasing market penetration from 11% to 15% as consumers continued to shift towards the site which incorporates a broader range of accommodation options than its competitor Airbnb.

Other notable brands just outside the top 10 included; TK Maxx, Uber Eats, Zambrero and SushiHub.
American retail brand TK Maxx managed to gain more than 750,000 new customers during the financial year despite a limited number of new store openings. Uber Eats, Zambrero and SushiHub all gained between 500,000 and 700,000 new customers during the year, again highlighting the strong consumer demand for Quick Service Restaurants in Australia despite any economic conditions.
